Crack Burgers: The Ultimate Juicy, Saucy Smash Hit

Yields: 4 servings
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
  2. Form the Patties: Divide the ground beef into four equal portions. Gently form each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.
  3. Season the Patties: Season both sides of the patties generously with salt and black pepper.
  4. Cook the Burgers: Heat a grill or a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, top each patty with a slice of American cheese and let it melt.
  5. Toast the Buns: While the burgers are cooking, spread the softened butter on the cut sides of the burger buns. Toast them on the grill or in a separate pan until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the Burgers: Spread a generous amount of the prepared sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a cheesy burger patty on top of the sauce. Add any optional toppings you like. Place the top half of the bun on top.
  7. Serve: Serve the Crack Burgers immediately and enjoy!
